This is going to be a long hard campaign and our strength lies in having many people involved in many ways. Things you could do:

Take Action

Finally we have movement! The council’s Economic Development, Transport and Tourism Scrutiny Commission has invited us to address the Economic Development, Transport and Tourism Scrutiny Commission meeting on Weds 16/10/19 at 5.30pm in City Hall. This is your chance to get them to act on our behalf.

We are asking:

  • that the possibility of this road (the red line on the map as the council sees it) is removed from the local plan for once and for all.
  • that the city council makes a commitment not to build this road now or in the next 30 years.

What you can do:

  • Come and watch us address the Economic Development, Transport and Tourism Scrutiny Commission meeting to show the council that we care. They have invited us to address them at this meeting and they can can make recommendations to the City Executive who get to decide what happens about both transport and the Local Plan. We’ll be at the start of the agenda after a little bit of routine business so it would be good if you could arrive by 5.30pm. The meeting is in City Hall, 115 Charles St, LE1 1FZ .When you come into City Hall, ask at the reception desk where the meeting is and they’ll point you to the right room.
  • Write to the councillors on the committee before the meeting asking them to make these recommendations and explaining why you don’t want the road. The more your letter talks about your own experience, the more impact it will have. Their emails are: This email address is being protected from spambots. • Write to your own councillors asking them to ask the councillors on the commission to make these recommendations. To find the contact details of your own councillors go to: http://www.cabinet.leicester.gov.uk:8071/mgMemberIndex.aspx?bcr=1

If you want to do more, you could also:

  • Write to Leicester City Planning Department and express your opposition to this road being built, now or in 10-15 years time. Every letter they get shows them that people in this city wants the council to find alternative solutions to road building, and strengthens our voice. The email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and the address is The planning department, City Hall, 115 Charles St, Leicester, LE1 1FZ.

Organise

Get involved with the organising side of this campaign. We meet roughly once a month to plan activities, priorities and how to make the campaign effective – and then in between we do the work needed to make it happen. Why not come to a meeting and see if you’d like to work with us?

We also need people to help on stalls so we can spread the work about this campaign, so if you think you'd like to spend a couple of hours doing this occasionally, please shout! Also tell us if you know of a Leicester event we could have a stall at.

For the latest events see our Events and Updates page.
